National Disaster Management Authority NDMA says more than 30 residents from Male' have been provided temporary shelter after 24 hours of rainfall wreaked havoc in the capital city.
NDMA said that authorities received 101 calls due to the flooding in Male'. It said that these hotlines include the ones set up by NDMA, MNDF, Police, and the Red Crescent in Male'.
The authority also said that MNDF teamed up with Male' City Council and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works to sandbag 47 houses and shops affected by the flooding.
It added that 229 sandbags were used in the process.
NDMA further said that it conducted rapid assessments of 12 households with the assistance from Maldives Red Crescent.
It stated that 32 individuals from 8 households have been moved to temporary shelter for one day. It said that they are being provided with meals for the duration of their stay at the shelter.
NDMA said these 32 individuals were moved to shelters because the flooding had made their households temporarily uninhabitable with no way to cook, eat, use the toilet or sleep.
