Maldives National Defence Force, MNDF, has confirmed that it assisted a vessel with a stalled engine amid its trip between Male' and Lhaviyani Naifaru.
MNDF stated that the vessel was named 'Lifeline' and that it was traveling with 40 individuals on board. MNDF noted that the vessel's engine stalled east of Kaafu Atoll, Kaashidhoo, and that it received the incident report around 08:15 am.
It further said that MNDF dispatched the Coastguard's first Squadron of its Northern Area command to transfer the women and children aboard the vessel to Naifaru.
MNDF said that two harbour crafts and a Gulfcraft were being used in the rescue.
The country is experiencing a bout of bad weather with strong winds and rough seas expected across the country.
Authorities have warned seafarers to be cautious of the weather condition an keep following the weather alerts being issued.
