The Maldives and India have held discussions about opening consulate offices in cities other than the capital cities Male' and New Delhi.

The discussions were held when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the official talks between the two countries earlier today.

During the talks, the two sides agreed to work positively towards establishing a consulate of Maldives in Bengaluru and a consulate of India in Addu City.

The President's Office said that the two sides recognized that these would contribute to the expansion of trade and economic cooperation and greater people-to-people contacts.

The two sides also agreed to enhance air and maritime connectivity to facilitate ease of travel, support economic engagement, and promote tourism.

India and the Maldives also agreed to establish higher education institutions, skilling centres and centres of excellence in Maldives, as per its needs and requirements.
