President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that Maldives' engagement with other nations will not undermine Indian Security Interests amid calming relations between the two countries.
The President made these remarks in an exclusive interview with India's Times of India as he undertakes his first State Visit to India since taking office back in November.
President Muizzu noted that the Maldives is building connections with other nations in different sectors and assured that the Maldives will make sure that its actions do not jeopardize the security and stability in the region.
The President said that India is a valued partner and a friend of the Maldives, and the relationship is built on mutual respect and shared interests. He reaffirmed that the Maldives will continue to seek strong and strategic ties with India and work jointly to ensure regional stability.
The President and first lady received a ceremonial welcome today by the President and Prime Minister of India on his first state visit to the country.
He is expected to sit down for the official talks with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi later today.
