Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan says legal proceedings for those under indefinite detention following arrests would be expedited and innocent individuals would be swiftly released.
The Minister said this while speaking at the 3rd session of the public forum 'Ahaa' held last night.
Minister Ihusan noted that ending indefinite detentions is a key pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and since the administration took over, authorities are working on finding a solution to the issue.
The Minister said that the whole delay in the justice system is one of the keys to solving the problem.
Minister Ihusan stressed that the government has no plans to hold individuals in detention without a conviction just to carry out the investigation and that indefinitely detaining suspects would be brought to an end.
Ihusan said that many are still being indefinitely detained for a long term and that the administration has compiled a list of the suspects detained for the longest time. He added that this list has been shared with the Prosecutor General's Office and the courts to expedite proceedings.
Minister Ihusan said the Attorney General's Office is working with the prosecutor and the courts to expedite the trials. He added the Attorney General's Office is already looking into legal solutions for those who remain in custody pending trial.
