Police have launched an investigation into the vandalism of the huge monument placed by the Kaafu Huraa Council at its harbor, a week after it was unveiled.
The monument displayed a life-like model of a grey heron and a red crab, as Huraa is known among Chinese tourists as the 'Crab Island'.
The week-old monument was vandalized last night.
The Huraa Council said that it has complained to the Police after the vandalism of the monument made from fibreglass. It said that it lodged such a case because such actions would be an obstacle to the progress and development of the island.
Police said they had launched an investigation into the matter, but have yet to arrest any suspects in the case. The Huraa Council published photos of the vandalism which showed that a sharp object was used to damage the Grey Heron.
Huraa is famous for local tourisim among foreigners and locals.
