President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Alifu Alifu Ranfaru Lagoon as part of Alifu Alifu Maalhos, in fulfillment of a commitment made to the local community.
This decision was formalised through Presidential Decree No. 20/2025, issued under the authority granted by Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 7/2010).
Following this decision, Alifu Alifu Ranfaru Lagoon has been officially added to the list of inhabited islands in the Maldives, now forming part of Alifu Alifu Maalhos. Additionally, the appendix of Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 (on the establishment of inhabited islands in the Maldives) has been updated accordingly.
This administrative change fulfils a promise made by President Dr Muizzu during his visit to several islands in Alifu Alifu and Kaafu Atoll in December 2024. The pledge was made in a meeting with the Alifu Alifu Maalhos Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee.
