President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Uz Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, H. Host Side, as Chief Justice of the Maldives. The President presented the letter of appointment at a special ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.

Uz Abdul Ghanee Mohamed’s appointment as Chief Justice was made per Article 147 of the Constitution. Supreme Court Justice Honourable Uz Abdulla Hameed administered the oath of office.

Following the oath, the Chief Justice signed the official declaration.

Chief Justice Uz Abdul Ghanee holds an LLB (Hons.) in Law and Islamic Jurisprudence from Al-Azhar University (2000), a Master’s degree in Islamic Judicial Sciences and Shariah Policy (2022), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (2024) from the Islamic University of Maldives.

He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Islamic Judicial Sciences and Legislative Policy.

Before he was appointed Chief Justice, he served as President of the Tax Appeal Tribunal. He has held academic positions as a lecturer at the Islamic University of Maldives, Villa College, and Zikura College.

His judicial career encompasses service on the benches of the Supreme Court and Civil Court, as well as his tenure as Chief Judge of the High Court. Uz Abdul Ghanee also served on the Judicial Service Commission.
