Minister of Gender, family, and Social Development Dr. Aishath Shiham says the MVR 100 million loans designed especially for women by the government would be issued soon.
She made the remarks while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 'Hiyala Weekend Market' designated specially for women to showcase their businesses.
The Minister said that the government would start issuing loans specially designed for women and also would start giving loans to small businesses as financial support.
Noting that every woman must be self-reliant, Minister Aishath Shiyam emphasized that the main aim of the government was to empower women. She said that the government believed that this was the reason that women should be encouraged to be self-reliant.
Speaking on the weekend market opened yesterday, the Minister said that the market has opened the opportunity to showcase the products made by women to the public.
She added that the market would facilitate businesses run by women who stay at home and hence business space would be leased at low rents.
