Police have confirmed the demise of an American citizen in a diving accident in a resort in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
Police revealed that they received the report of the incident on the 6th of this month and that the tourist died while diving on the outer reef of the resort.
They identified the victim as a 47-year-old man from America.
Police did not reveal any more information about the incident, but assured that they were further investigating the incident.
Such incidents involving tourists are not uncommon in the Maldives.
Tourists who visit the Maldives and resort employees go swimming or snorkeling in different areas. Such incidents are especially common during bad weather.
