Police have launched an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a 9-year-old boy on a southern island.
Speaking to the Press, a police official said they launched the investigation on the 9th of this month, three days ago.
Police further said that they have yet to arrest anyone in the case.
In cases related to the abuse and alleged abuse of children, the Police do not reveal the identity of the victims to protect them from the stigma related to such cases.
For the past few years, Police have been prioritizing the crimes committed against minors and children, with sexual crimes given special importance.
Police have also been working to protect the identity of victims of such heinous crimes and have withheld information about the victim’s island or atoll, or where the crimes happened in multiple cases.
Investigations and court proceedings against alleged child abusers have been fast-tracked on several occasions, with police adamant on revealing the identities of the suspects.
