A group of contract workers from Fenaka has staged a protest in Haa Alifu Dhihdhoo after the company decided not to renew their contracts.

The contract employees were hired for the Dhihdhoo new powerhouse project. But the protesters said that they were informed of the decision not to renew their contracts today when they went to the office.

The protesting employees said that the company's decision would have a great impact on them and their families. The protesters used placards to express their anger. One of them read that the people cannot be placated by a 10kg sack of rice or flour after being fired from their jobs. This is about President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's announcement recently that the government would give each household a 10kg sack of flour and rice for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

One such board also reminded the government that the Parliamentary Election is upcoming.

Fenaka Managing Director Muaz Mohamed Rasheed said in a post that the company hired 70 temporary employees for the Dhihdhoo Powerhouse project. However, since the project has been delayed, the company decided not to renew the contracts of these workers.

He noted that a total of MVR 49 million would be spent on the project and that out of this MVR 23 million would be spent on human resources.
