The government has decided to build floating villas in the only area in Maldives that meets all the requirements of a forest.
The decision to develop eco-tourism in Kelakun was taken to expand the economy and increase the country's income. The Economy Council is chaired by Mohammed Muizzu.
Principal Under Secretary to the President Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim said the project will be carried out on an island of natural beauty. Therefore, the government intends to develop tourism by building floating villas in the village's forest to prevent damage to the natural environment.
Nazim said the island will be developed for eco-tourism and an environmentally friendly visitor center will be established to provide information on the history of the island and the historical sites in the island.
Meanwhile, Nazim said the government has decided to conduct a detailed study in collaboration with the Environment Ministry and other relevant agencies to identify how the village can be developed in a manner that will not harm the natural beauty and marine life.
