Tourism Ministry says the Maldives has welcomed more than 1.5 million tourists this year.

The Ministry shared tourist arrival statistics till the 28th of this month today and it showed that a total of 1,505,366 tourists have arrived in the country.

The Ministry said that a total of 1,675,303 tourists arrived in the Maldives last year. As for 2021, a total of 1,321,937 tourists visited the country post the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tourism Ministry said that so far this year, most of the tourists have come from Russia with 172,472 tourists from the country visiting the Maldives this year. That is 11.5 percent of the market share.

Russia's dominance means India dropped to second place on the list of countries with the most tourists to the Maldives this year. But still, 163,513 tourists from India visited the Maldives so far this year.

China, the United Kingdom, and Germany completed the top markets for this year so far.

The Tourism Ministry further noted that currently there are 1,274 tourist accommodation facilities being operated in the country and that this includes 178 resorts and 920 guesthouses.
