A suspect held under custody at the Police Station in Alifu Alifu Atoll Rasdhoo has escaped.
Police said that the suspect escaped yesterday and identified the individual as a 25-year-old local man.
They said that the suspect escaped from the station after jumping over the wall of the building after he was let out from the holding cell.
Police said the court had ordered that the suspect be held in custody until his trial is over but the Police did not specify why the suspect was arrested in the first place and just that he was arrested in relation to a case they were investigating.
Social media posts about the escape said that the suspect escaped from the police station after stealing equipment from the station.
But the Police denied this and said that they were working to find the escaped suspect.
