Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday declared the Monsoon Session of Parliament a “celebration of victory,” citing recent national achievements in defence and space. Addressing the media ahead of the session, the Prime Minister lauded the Indian Armed Forces for the complete success of Operation Sindoor, emphasizing that all objectives had been met with precision.
Modi said the operation, which targeted terrorist bases, was completed in just 22 minutes and demonstrated India’s growing military capability. “The Indian Army achieved 100 percent of its targets in Operation Sindoor. The world has witnessed the strength of India’s military power, and there is growing admiration for our Made-in-India defence capabilities,” he stated.
He highlighted the increasing global interest in India's indigenously produced defence equipment, saying international leaders have expressed strong interest in Indian-made military technologies. “Whenever I meet people around the world, I notice the attraction towards our domestically produced weapons and systems,” he added.
The Prime Minister also commended Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who recently piloted the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS), marking the first time the Indian tricolour was hoisted in space. He described the achievement as a matter of great national pride and called on Parliament to collectively celebrate the moment.
Modi emphasized that such accomplishments are sparking new enthusiasm in science, technology, and innovation across the country. He urged all political parties and Members of Parliament to unite in acknowledging these milestones, noting that collective celebration would inspire the nation’s youth, boost indigenous defence manufacturing, and generate employment opportunities.
Touching on the broader context of the season, the Prime Minister said the monsoon represents growth and prosperity. He noted that the weather was progressing well across the country, benefiting agriculture and the rural economy. “Rain plays a vital role in the economy. In the past decade, our water reserves have tripled,” he said.
The session is expected to see intense political activity, with the Opposition INDIA bloc preparing to raise questions on various issues including the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR), and the Air India AI-171 crash.
Meanwhile, the government is set to introduce and pass several key bills, including the Lok Sabha Manipur GST (Amendment) Bill, Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, Geo-Heritage Sites and Geo-Relics (Conservation and Maintenance) Bill, Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, National Sports Governance Bill, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill.
The Monsoon Session will continue until August 21, with a scheduled recess from August 12 to August 18. A total of 21 sittings are planned over the course of 32 days. Prime Minister Modi was accompanied by Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jitendra Singh, and L. Murugan during his media interaction. (Source: The Print)
