India has announced the deployment of a team of burn-specialist doctors and nurses to Dhaka to assist in treating victims of the tragic air crash that occurred at a school in the Bangladeshi capital. The move follows the devastating crash of a military jet into Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, on Monday, which claimed the lives of at least 31 people, including 25 children.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday night, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the medical team will carry necessary equipment and support to provide immediate care to the injured. The team includes burn specialists from two prominent Delhi hospitals — Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital.
"The team of burn-specialist doctors and nurses with necessary medical support is scheduled to visit Dhaka shortly to treat the victims," the MEA said. The statement added that the team would assess the condition of the patients and make recommendations for further treatment, including the possibility of advanced care in India where required.
The MEA also noted that additional medical teams could be dispatched based on the findings of the initial assessment. The assistance reflects India’s commitment to regional humanitarian support and follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s expression of condolences over the tragic incident. Modi had earlier conveyed India's readiness to extend all necessary support to Bangladesh in the wake of the disaster.
In Bangladesh, the Air Force has formed a high-level investigation committee to determine the cause of the accident. Authorities continue to provide emergency support and are closely coordinating with medical and rescue teams on the ground. (Source: NDTV)
