President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says in the Maldives development is brought ahead of the election that is held every five years and that this is not how his thinking is shaped.

He made the remarks while speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the new Fenaka Office in Thaa Atoll Hirilandhoo today.

The President said that the people can only enjoy development once all the basic services are developed and bring changes that would let families stay together.

Touching on how developmental projects were carried out before, the President said that change was brought ahead of the Presidential elections held every five years.

He said that this is how all the previous administrations have acted and that this was the reason why the Maldives was behind on developmental progress despite the income level.

The President said that he did not believe in this notion and that he did not bring about development just for the election.

Appreciating the warm welcome given to the President on his visit to the island of Hirilandhoo, he said that the warm reception shows that the dreams of the people of Hirilandhoo have now become true.

The President said that back in 2018 his administration found that many islands were lacking essential needs and that the government had determined these services must be established as a priority.

President Solih promised that no island would be left out when establishing essential services.
