MP for Guraidhoo Constituency Ibrahim Riza has passed away.
He passed away last night while in Malaysia seeking treatment for cancer.
Sources have said that the MP was fighting intestinal cancer.
MP Riza was elected to the Parliament through a PPM ticket. He had done an immense amount of work to develop and nurture the party.
Meanwhile, the opposition coalition described his loss as immeasurable.
In a statement, the PPM coalition sent its condolences to the MP's family as well as the members of the Guraidhoo constituency which contains the islands Kaafu Gulhi, Kaafu Maafushi, and Kaafu Guraidhoo.
The statement further read that MP Riza played vital role since PPM's inception and that he had worked for the betterment of the party till the end.
It said that he played an important part in the foundation of both DRP as well as PPM.
