Islamic Minster Dr. Ahmed Ali Zahir has confirmed that the Maldives has already received 1000 quotas for this year's Hajj pilgrimage from Saudi Arabia.

He confirmed this via Twitter.

The Minister said that Saudi Arabia has already promised 1000 Hajj quotas for the Maldives for this year's annual Hajj Pilgrimage. He added that the Ministry will work to increase this number before the Hajj season.

This is the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic Saudi Arabia would not set a limit for pilgrims ahead of the Hajj season. It started to limit the number of pilgrims from each country back in 2021 due to the global pandemic that cost thousands and thousands of lives.

Last year, the Maldives received only 453 spots for the Hajj pilgrimage. The government decided to give 352 spots to those on the Hajj Corporation and opened 100 spots for the public.

A total of 900,000 muslims were allowed into Saudi Arabia for the Hajj Pilgrimage last year.
