Maldives Police Service has denied claims by local actress Aminath Rishfa who accused the Police of leaking personal photos and videos of her after she gave her phone to the police for an ongoing investigation.
In a Facebook post, Rishfa said that her phone had been under police custody from November 2022 to December 2022 and that the Forensic Department along with three other officers had access to her phone and personal information.
She went on to say that all her photos and videos are now on public sites and that she gave her phone passcode to give support for an ongoing investigation. The actress further said that she will make sure whoever is responsible for her defamation gets the right punishment and accused the Police saying that this was not the first time the Institution has failed to uphold the right to privacy.
In response to her accusations, the Police said to 'The Press that the Police handle evidence as per the law and as per international best practices.
The police assured that information on any device under Police forensic would not be leaked and that the forensic lab is organized in a manner in which the subject's privacy is best protected.
The Actress was arrested last year for the use and sale of narcotics and was charged for the crimes too.
But she has been denying these accusations.
