Tourism Minister Abdullah Mausoom says those who have paid an unnecessary fee to the Ministry can contact authorities to resolve the matter.

He said this in Parliament today in response to questions by the MP for Medhu Henveiru Constituency Ali Azim who said that the fee and tax taken from the public are clearly stated in the law, but that companies must pay thousands to the Ministry when shares change hands.

MP Azim further said that the biggest amount that can be taken as a fee is USD 1,000 as per the law but that the Ministry is taking fines bigger than this. He questioned when the Ministry would stop these transactions and whether such fees can be given back.

In response, the Tourism Minister said that even though the Ministry has taken such fees before but it has since stopped taking fees like these.

He said that companies do not need to inform the Ministry when it changes shares.

The Minister also said that if any individual or company has lost their rights due to laws and requlation, they should contact the relevant authority.
