Speaker of the Parliament and MDP Primary Candidate Mohamed Nasheed says he would not wrong the residents of Male' like how this administration wronged the people of Shaviyani Komandoo.

He made the remarks last night while speaking at the opening ceremony of his campaign office in Male'.

Nasheed revealed his housing policies if he were to come into power.

He pointed out how the administration had acted toward Komandoo and said that the government instructed him to tell the people that it intends to join the two Komandoo islands. He joked that the dredger was removed from the site before the people had finished voting and that the reclaimed site was now gone.

Nasheed said that this was a tragic fate for the people of Komandoo and that the government is planning for the same fate for the people of Male'.

Speaking more about the housing constraints in Male', Nasheed said that around 5,000 people in Male' need housing immediately. Saying that this remains an unresolved problem, Nasheed mentioned that there were 4 million square feet of land in Hulhumale' and even if 2 million square feet is given up, it would provide housing for 5,000 families.

The Speaker further said that just like he had given 200 people land plots during his tenure as President, he would give land plots to 5,000 before the end of 2024.

The campaign battle between Nasheed and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih continues to heat up as the MDP Primary draws closer. The internal election of the biggest party in the country is scheduled to be held on 28th January.
