Communications Director at the Foreign Ministry Miuvaan Mohamed says no Maldivian living in Sri Lanka has reached out to any diplomatic units for help amid the economic crisis in the country.

He said this while answering a question from 'The Press' about the current situation of Maldivians living in the financially-troubled country.

Miuvaan said that right now it would be difficult to travel within Sri Lanka and that there was little to nothing the Maldivian government can do to ease the situation.

He further said Maldivians in the country fully understand the difficult situation in Sri Lanka right now.

Yesterday, Sri Lanka's energy minister has issued a stark warning over the country's fuel stocks as it faces its worst economic crisis in more than 70 years.

Kanchana Wijesekera said the nation only had enough petrol left for less than a day under regular demand.

He also said its next petrol shipment was not due for more than two weeks.

Last week, Sri Lanka suspended sales of petrol and diesel for non-essential vehicles as it struggles to pay for imports like fuel, food, and medicines.

The cash-strapped country has also sent officials to the major energy producers Russia and Qatar in an attempt to secure cheap oil supplies.
