Leader of Maldives Democratic Party MDP Mohamed Nasheed says it would best for the party right now to shun the government and sever toes with the coalition government.

Nasheed who is also the Speaker of the Parliament made these comments in his messages to a social group that includes MDP members.

In his message, he indicated that the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was 'sinking' and that it would be best for MDP to shun the government so as to avoid 'sinking' with it.

Nasheed pointed out that the current administration is not just an MDP government and hence the government is unable to achieve the needs of MDP members and is also unable to fulfill MDP pledges.

Nasheed had been regularly commenting on the government's inability to fulfill the pledges made during the last presidential elections.

In addition to Nasheed, other top leaders within the party have also been critical of the party ahead of the internal elections that had further divided the country's most popular political party.
