President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has kicked off his trip to Noonu Atoll with a stop at Maafaru island today.

President Solih arrived at the island earlier today and met with members of the Maafaru Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC).

The members of the council and WDC shared with the President the developmental needs of the island and the immediate concerns of the residential community. Some of the topics discussed at the meeting include resolving housing needs, improving healthcare services, the need for a youth center, and issues related to the council’s jurisdiction.

The council members also requested the expeditious operationalization of the ice plant on the island and discussed changes to the design of the harbor.

Speaking with them, President Solih shared the latest updates on the developmental projects underway on the island.

He also shared details of the administration’s policy on the decentralized development of the health sector. He also assured the members that the government would take steps to address their concerns.

Later on, the President met with the residential community of Maafaru Island where he assured them that the administration had been working to fulfill pledges from the get-go and that in most islands between 99 percent to 85 percent of the pledges had been accomplished.
