Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 106 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Wednesday.
HPA said yesterday that out of the new cases 78 were reported from the inhabited islands and that 16 new cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area.
The Agency said that it had confirmed another 12 cases from operational resorts across the country.
HPA had said that yesterday 5,333 COVID-19 samples were tested and that 1,254 samples were from the Greater Male' Area.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases to a staggering 79,525 in the Maldives since March 2020.
HPA had said that currently there are 1,652 active cases of the illness with 77,639 recoveries. The Agency added that the number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized for further treatment had now dropped to 15.
The pandemic has killed 222 people in the Maldives including both locals and foreigners.
Most of the locals who have died are elderly individuals with underlying medical issues. Although, several young people including a 10-year-old girl had succumbed to the pandemic in the Maldives.
HPA had said that out of the total number of cases there are 12 deceased positives whose causes of death are not related to COVID-19.
