Health Protection Agency HPA has reported another 136 new COVID-19 cases in the country today as the numbers continue to stay above 100.

HPA said in its daily tweet that out of the 136 new cases reported today, 124 were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area where the infection is rampant.

HPA also said that 10 new cases were confirmed from operational resorts while 2 new COVID-19 cases were reported from liveaboards.

The new cases have taken the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to 20,280.

HPA said that there 2,615 active cases of the pandemic here in the Maldives right now and that 187 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.

HPA indicated that 17,595 people have now recovered from the illness in the country.

The global pandemic has claimed 63 lives in the Maldives as earlier today a 67-year-old man succumbed to the illness.

HPA had said that the man had been taken to IGMH/ER in an unresponsive state and was declared dead shortly afterward. His family had confirmed that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Authorities have been taking more measures to quell the rampant pandemic, especially in the Greater Male Area. This includes closing down eateries in the area at 08:00 pm for dine-ins and also ordering mosques to maintain social distancing during congregational prayers.
