Addu Emergency Operations Center AEOC says Addu Equitorial Hospital would be taking random samples from the city today amid a possible community spread of the COVID-19 pandemic there.

The Center said that random samples would be taken between 12:00 pm to 06:00 pm in the evening every day for the next 7 days.

There currently two COVID-19 clusters in the southern city with a total of 60 COVID cases now reported in Addu City.

Giving a further breakdown of the cases, AEOC said that there are more than 20 cases in Hithadhoo, while Maradhoofeydhoo has reported 4 cases, and Feydhoo had confirmed 9 cases. It also said that 25 COVID cases have been reported from Hulhudhoo Meedhoo.

AEOC had said yesterday that there are more than 340 direct contacts of the positive cases in the city and that 182 buildings are currently under quarantine. It also said 4 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized in Addu City.

Health Protection Agency HPA had placed the whole island under monitoring earlier this month and had also imposed an 8-hour curfew in the city.
