Schools in the Greater Male’ Area have reopened its doors for students from grades 9 and higher today.

The Schools in the country shut down earlier this year in March after the discovery of the first case of COVID-19 from the country.

Students around the country had joined teleclasses and google classrooms to keep up with their studies amid the pandemic.

But the Education Ministry had resumed sessions in the islands from grades 1 to 12 in July while in the Greater Male’ Area students from grades 9 to 12 went back to school albeit with several safety measures in place.

However, with the surge of cases in the capital city in the early weeks of August, the Ministry had yet again suspended the sessions and reverted back to online classes.

Schools in the Male’ Area allowed students back for physical classes amid a significant drop in cases of COVID-19 reported in the capital city. Health Protection Agency HPA had said that 41 new cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area yesterday while a total of 67 cases reported in the country on Saturday.

The Education Ministry had previously set guidelines that should be followed when letting students come back to school. This includes students wearing facemasks to school, easy access to handwashing stations inside the school and social distancing should also be maintained during the sessions.
