President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today forwarded the names of two nominees for the Maldives' Supreme Court for parliamentary approval.
The President's Office said that President Solih sent the names of Ali Rasheed Hussain and Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim as his appointees to the Supreme Court bench.
President Solih sent his preferred nominations as justices for the Supreme Court, under the powers vested in him as per Article 148 of the Maldives' Constitution.
Earlier this month, Judicial Service Commission JSC invited applications for the Supreme Court bench as two seats on the bench that remain vacant.
President Solih ratified the 3rd Amendments to the Judicature Act last July.
Following the ratification of this amendment, the total number of judges on the Supreme Court bench was changed to 7, composed of a Chief Justice and 6 additional judges.
