Health Protection Agency HPA has reported the highest daily count of new cases since the outbreak of Covid-19 in Maldives with 23 news cases confirmed today.
Speaking to the media, HPA’s medical Officer Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said 14 more individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 today. She said these were all foreign nationals and that they shared the same living quarters.
Earlier in the day, HPA had reported nine people from Male’ had tested positive for Covid-19. HPA had said the infected included four Maldivians and five Bangladeshi nationals.
During the press briefing Dr. Nazla gave a breakdown of the 9 cases found earlier today. She said the individuals include 2 cases relating to case 53 and 2 people relating to case 36. Dr. Nazla also said individuals that are linked to the largest cluster of community spread since the outbreak in Male’ also tested positive for the virus. She added that this cluster stretched from Case 38 to case 49.
Dr. Nazla also said in light of the new cases reported today, 137 new contacts have been identified through the contact tracing of the individuals.
Today’s reported case takes total number of positive cases found in Maldives to 108. With 16 people having recovered from the highly contagious illness 90 others still remain under treatment with 2 having left the country.
