Health Protection Agency HPA’s Dr. Ibrahim Afzal says three cases that tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday have uncovered 2 hubs with 190 contacts.
Updating the media on the latest developments of Covid-19, Dr. Afzal said two hubs have been discovered following the contact tracing of cases 76, 77 and 78. He said one of these hubs had 50 contacts and the other hub had 140 contacts totaling to 190 contacts. He predicted that these hubs might yet become major contact hubs in the community spread of Covid-19 in Maldives.
Dr. Afzal also revealed details of a few other cases last night.
He said case 68 is a Bangladeshi national and 8 contacts have been identified in relation to this case.
Dr. Afzal said case 69 (Infected MNDF officer) is a contact of previously tested case 41.
He explained that case 70,71 and 72 belonged to the same cluster and that 34 contacts have been traced from the cluster.
Dr. Afzal said case 73 is related to case 78 and that this individual is a Maldivian. He added that 4 other contacts have been identified for the individual.
He explained that case 74 and 75 were related Amin Hiya constructions and that their case was traced back to case 36. He added that three others have been traced back to that case and that two of them have tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr. Afzal also said that case number 79 is related to case 31.
A total of 86 individuals have now tested positive for Covid-19 in Maldives including 66 from Male’ alone.
