Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed says public health experts in the country had projected that the Covid-19 global pandemic would be widespread in Maldives with the virus reaching the islands.
In a tweet, the former President Nasheed said the illness is progressing as initially predicted by the authorities.
He assured that the government was fully prepared to tackle the illness and urged the public to ease their worries.
Nasheed tweeted this after a Maldivian living in Male’ City tested positive for Covid-19 having sought treatment at Male’ Flu clinic.
It has been revealed that the person is a woman and that she does not have a recent travel history.
Authorities are now carrying out contact tracing for the individual.
