Health Protection Agency HPA says a sample taken from a Maldivian national who presented to Male' Flu Clninc has tested postive for Covid-19.
In a tweet, HPA said this is the 1st person who tested positive for the highly contagious virus in Male'.
It said the person is currently being transferred to an isolation facility. This is the 6th Maldivian to test positive for the virus.
Five Maldivians who came back from abroad had tested postive for Covid-19, four of them coming back from the UK. The other individual who tested positive came back from the Philippines.
Meanwhile, HPA has projected that 46,000 individuals would be infected with the virus in the Male' Area alone if no preventive measures is taken to combat against the spread of Covid-19.
HPA compiled projection on how Covid-19 may spread in the country using the model designed by WHO and the Imperial College from UK.
