The Maldives has requested from the Indian government to acquire a new military sea vessel in a move to expand the island nation's defensive strength.

The news has been confirmed through a daily news outlet from India, which had claimed Maldivian Minister of Defense Al-Ustada Mariya Ahmed Didi made the request to New Delhi.

The island nation's Minister of Defense is currently visiting India to take part at the 11th Defexpo at Lucknow.

Meanwhile, it has been reported Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi will expectedly meet her Indian counterpart to discuss on improving the military union between the two nations.

The Maldives Defense Minister had earlier commented the island nation's military fleet require an addition to its marine wing, while she added the Indian government had given a nod of approval to heed the request.

In 2019, India had gifted a military sea vessel to Maldives.
