The former Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who was found guilty and convicted for one count of money laundering, will have a hearing on his appeal's case on Thursday.

Maldives Criminal Court found the former head of state guilty of the crime of money laundering and was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of USD 5 million.

Yameen Abdul Gayoom was sentenced by the case of first instance on November 2019.

The first hearing of the appeal's case of the former president was on Tuesday, last week.

Meanwhile, advocate Adam Shameem, from the former president's team of lawyers has confirmed they received notification for the appeal hearing scheduled for 09:55hrs on Thursday morning.

The former president's lawyer claimed the court will arrive to a decision on releasing Yameen Abdul Gayoom on bail during the appeal's hearing.
