The Parliament has rejected an emergency motion regarding the severe shortage of vital medicines in the Maldives.
The MP for Galolhu North Constituency, Mohamed Ibrahim, submitted the motion at the Parliament session held today.
However, it was rejected with votes from 36 MPs present at the session, while 11 MPs voted in favour of accepting the motion for debate.
The motion said that the shortage of medical medicines in the country is severe. He said that although pharmacies have been able to buy their own medicines since Aasandha stopped providing them, they cannot buy them at high prices.
The MP noted that some medicines are not available at any pharmacies and that this has led to complaints that special medicines for major and chronic diseases and mental illnesses, the elderly, pregnant women, and children have been running out for several days.
The MP blamed the government for the current crisis, saying that the people have been having so much difficulty in getting medicines because of the government’s unplanned decisions in the name of reforming the Aasandha.
After the vote that rejected the Motion, MP Ibrahim said that the ruling government did not believed that there was such a crisis.
