The Maldives has condemned the heinous attack carried out by Israel on 8 April 2026 in parts of Lebanon, which has resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and injuries to thousands.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that such blatant acts continue to undermine international efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region, while posing a serious threat to further destabilisation of regional security.
The Maldives called on the international community to take immediate and decisive action to hold Israel accountable for its continued violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
It also said that the Government and people of the Maldives stand in solidarity with the Government and people of Lebanon and reaffirm their support for efforts to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
Earlier, the Maldivian government welcomed the temporary truce between Iran and the US and expressed its hope that this development would contribute to the de-escalation of hostilities in the region, providing an opportunity for dialogue and diplomacy to prevail in achieving a lasting solution and a peaceful resolution of differences.
