A man who went missing after a boat capsized last night has been found alive clinging to a wooden board in the sea.
The elderly man was reported missing after a boat traveling from Male' to Gaafu Alifu Atoll Villigilli capsized near Laamu Atoll Olhuveli.
The boat, 'Udhares', capsized after it ran aground on a reef near the area.
Authorities said that 13 people were aboard the boat when it capsized and that 11 individuals were rescued by a vessel from a resort nearby. They also said a foreigner from the boat swam to the nearby Olhuvelifushi resort.
Authorities immediately began searching for the missing elderly man after they were notified of his disappearance. The man was found earlier today floating in the sea with the help of a wooden boat.
The Maldives National Defence Force MNDF said that he was spotted by a vessel nearby and that he was rescued off Laamu Gaadhoo. They did not give any information about his condition.
However, a video of his rescue is circulating on social media, and the man appeared alert and unharmed.
