External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar launched a strong attack on Pakistan during his address to the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, accusing the country of being the source of major global terror incidents.
Citing the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists, Jaishankar said: “When nations openly declare terrorism as state policy, when terror hubs operate on an industrial scale, when terrorists are publicly glorified, such actions must be unequivocally condemned.”
The minister described Pakistan as the “epicentre of global terrorism,” stressing that India has faced this challenge since independence. “For decades, major international terrorist attacks have been traced back to that one country. UN-designated terrorist lists are filled with its nationals,” he told world leaders.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar noted that India exercised its right to defend its citizens and ensured the perpetrators of terrorism were brought to justice. He called for global action to cut off terror financing, sanction prominent terrorists, and dismantle the wider terror ecosystem. “Those who condone nations that sponsor terror will find that it comes back to bite them,” he warned.
His remarks came hours after India’s UN diplomat Petal Gahlot also hit back at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for “glorifying terrorism.” Responding to Sharif’s claims of victory, she said Pakistan’s military had itself sought a ceasefire. “If destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars look like victory, Pakistan is welcome to enjoy it,” she added.
