The Deputy Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority MMA Ahmed Imad has resigned from his post amid attempts by the Parliament to get him dismissed.

In a statement to the media today, Imad said he was resigning from the post of Deputy Governor because the recent decisions taken by the MMA were not in line with its basic objectives.

Recently, the MMA board has decided to buy land to build a financial center in Hulhumale'. The government is working to raise MVR 15 billion to buy land through the MMA to pay off debts owed for the rest of the year.

Imad did not participate in the meeting held to take the decision. He also asked the board to reconsider their decision on the case.

The former Deputy Governor resigned after the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee decided to move his dismissal to the floor of the parliament this week.

Before being appointed Deputy Governor in 2020, Imad served as Executive Director of the MMA's Monetary Policy Research and Statistics Division and a board member of the CMDA.
