Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, was accorded a ceremonial welcome to the Maldives on Friday afternoon.

The ceremony commenced at the Republic Square, where President Dr Mohamed Muizzu formally received Prime Minister Modi. Students of Aminiya School presented a cultural performance, followed by a 21-gun salute by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

The national anthems of India and the Maldives were played, followed by a Guard of Honour, and the presentation of host and visiting delegation dignitaries.

Earlier, President Muizzu personally welcomed the Prime Minister at Velaana International Airport when his plane landed today. This was later highlighted by the Prime Minister in a post on his X account, stating that he appreciated the President's gesture.

This is Prime Minister Modi’s first state visit to the Maldives since assuming his third term in office.
