The Transport Ministry has announced that vehicles would be banned in the Greater Male' area at certain times during the next three days as the capital prepares for massive Independence Day celebrations.
In a statement, the Ministry said that many activites have been planned to mark the 60th Independence Day in the Greater Male' area of Male', Villimale', and Hulhumale'.
It said to ensure road safety and security, reduce road congestion, and facilitate security work, vehicles are prohibited from driving on the roads of the city.
Vehicle ban timings;
- Friday: C0, C2, D, E and V categories of heavy vehicles will be prohibited from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
- Saturday: All types of road vehicles will be prohibited from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
- Sunay:C0, C2, D, E and V categories of heavy vehicles will be prohibited from 6:00 pm to 12:00 noon.
The ministry said motorized road vehicles used by security forces, ambulances, public transport, or bus services will be allowed to drive during these hours.
It added that action would be taken against those who disobey this directive.
