Police confirm they have arrested 9 individuals in a drug operation in Baa Atoll Maakirilu.
They said that the operation was carried out based on counter-narcotics intelligence they had received. Police said that out of the 9 arrested, 3 were locals and the rest were foreigners.
The locals include 49-year-old Alhan Rasheed Hussain, 65-year-old Abdul Muhsin Hassan, and 25-year-old Mariyam Rifau.
Police reported that out of the 6 foreigners, three were Sri Lankan, two were Indian and the remaining suspect was a 46-year-old Bangladeshi national.
They confirmed that all 9 were arrested under a court-issued warrant.
Police said that in the operation carried out on the 15th of this month, they confiscated 162 beer cans, 5 bottles of alcohol, and a substance believed to be narcotics. They said the suspicious substance weighed around 12.8 grams.
They said that the Court has remanded 8 suspects for 15 days while Muhsin Hassan has been released with conditions.
Baa Maakirilu was leased by a private company back in 2016 for agricultural purposes.
