President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has dismissed Ibrahim Faisal from his position as the Minister of Tourism.

The President has assigned interim oversight of the Ministry of Tourism to Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed, effective today.

The President's office did not reveal why Faisal was dismissed from the post.

Faisal is the son of PNC Chairman and Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdullah.

Faisal's appointment as the Tourism Minister received criticism from the opposition as he had not previously held any prominent government posts.

However, under his tutelage, the previously wobbling tourism industry seems to have turned a corner with more tourist arrivals recorded in the first 20 days of this year compared to the last two years.
