The suspect apprehended in connection with the fatal accident that happened in Laamu Kahdhoo has been remanded in custody for 15 days.
The accident happened when a motorcycle crashed into two pedestrians crossing the road using the zebra crossing near Kahdhoo Airport on Friday night.
Four people were injured in the collision, and one of the pedestrians, a 64-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries while under treatment at the hospital.
Police said that they arrested the man who was driving the motorcycle. Police identified the suspect as 37-year-old Mohamed Nausan from Laamu Fonadhoo.
Police said today that the court has remanded the suspect in custody for 15 days as the investigation into the accident continues.
The new fatality in Laamu Atoll comes amid an alarming trend of fatal accidents being reported across the country.
A 16-year-old lost his life in a cycle accident reported from the Southern City of Fuvahmulah earlier this month, while a 17-year-old died on the spot when his motorcycle struck a pedestrian in Male' last month.
