The ruling PNC has appointed State Minister Muaz Haleem as the new Secretary General of the party.
Muaz is the State Minister at the Defence Ministry.
The Party announced his appointment via its social media accounts and congratulated him on the appointment.
The post was formerly filled by Zeenaz Adnan who is also the wife of local governance Minister Adam Shareef Umar. Her term as the Secretary General was completed last month and the post remained empty until now.
Muaz's appointment came as PNC faced hard questions about possible membership forgery after it was revealed that a parliament member representing the opposition MDP had been registered to PNC without him knowing.
MP for Vaikaradhoo Constituency was registered to PNC under falsely and MDP called on relevant authorities to investigate what it called a certain abuse of government resources.
