Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, IGMH, says the 40-year-old man injured in last night's fatal accident is currently on the ventilator in the hospital's ICU.
Tragic events unfolded in Male' last night as a speeding motorcycle being driven by an underage motorist crashed into a pedestrian using the zebra crossing near Maafanu Bus Terminal.
The accident claimed the life of Yoosuf Alsan Mohamed,17, who was driving the motorcycle when it crashed. Alsan is the only son of famous singers Mariyam Ashfa and Mohamed Abdul Ghani.
IGMH said that the 40-year-old pedestrian sustained serious injuries and is being treated in the ICU as he is currently on the ventilator.
Alsan had a 16-year-old passenger on his cycle when it crashed, and IGMH said that the minor has been moved to the ward for further treatment.
The crash has shaken the nation with the needless death of a promising young footballer, as many issues related to traffic and the use of vehicles are brought up once again in the Maldives.
These include underage driving as well as the wrong use of the zebra crossing when crossing busy roads in the bustling Male'.
