Police say they launched an investigation into the Binveriya Housing Scheme and Housing Development Corporation based on information it had received about potential wrongdoing.
Allegations surfaced on social media yesterday that HDC had engineered the allocation of land plots under the Binveriya Housing Scheme to non-recipients of the scheme. The individuals who received land plots include the brother of the current Managing Director of HDC.
Police raided the office of HDC yesterday after saying that it had launched a criminal investigation into the corporation.
In an update today, Police said they are investigating an allegation of forgery that relates to the Binevriya Scheme and HDC.
Police also confirmed that they launched the investigation based on the information they had received and that this was their initiative.
While Police continue to investigate the alleged forgery, the PCB suspended the Managing Director of HDC and its entire board pending the outcome of the investigation.
